I met Laurence in 2007 while at university, he was already one of the strongest and most athletic people I had ever met. His passion for sport and self improvement lead him to captain the university rugby team, years later these same passions would see him receiving a black belt from the greatest BJJ athlete of our time, Roger Gracie.  Laurence doesn't guess, he does his research, finds the most effective methods and then applies them with great success. I couldn't imagine a greater investment in your strength, health and Brazilian Jiujitsu than one of his programs.

I have been a strength and conditioning coach for over 20 years working with power athletes in every sport including martial artist, MMA fighters and Jiu jitsu athletes. Laurence Griffiths is one of the best coaches who teaches strength and movement that directly applies to what the athlete is performing. Many coaches today are trying to shove Jiu Jitsu athletes into a box with other sports and although some of the basics do apply there is much more to strength training the grappling martial artist.

I've been training with kettlebells since 2008 and in 2013 I became certified in both RKC and StrongFirst as an instructor. I am also a purple belt under Carlson Gracie Jr. with over 30 gold medals. I am constantly looking for programs and a training regimen that directly reflects all aspects of Jiu Jitsu. One of the biggest challenges I've faced with training outside of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is finding a program that adds to my BJJ training and does not take away from it, Laurence's approach to strength & conditioning does that amazingly well. It's just the right balance and the constant variety of movement patterns and mobility work is exactly what the Jiu Jitsu student needs! I highly recommend this program for the day to day BJJ practitioner to the high level competitor and anyone in between.

Professor Lawrence is a seasoned competitor and dedicated teammate with a deep and analytical understanding of the art. His particular brand of functional Jiu Jitsu and his intelligent, systematic approach to passing on technique has served his game and his students well. These days there’s a lot of talk about “competition BJJ” or “self-defense BJJ” or “new school vs. old school BJJ,” as if all of Jiu Jitsu is not available to all students. But I’ve seen Lawrence’s function-over-aesthetics style of teaching resonate equally across the board. Weather it’s high level competitors, adults, kids, working parents who train just because they love it, or someone who stepped onto the mat for the first time, his good-natured and realistic approach has been invaluable to guide students and to help them find their own game.

What is BJJStrength?

BJJStrength.com is here to help you be your best on the mat and off the mat.

Why "strength"?

First, saying BJJ doesn't require strength is a myth. EVERY movement we perform requires strength.

Being your best physically on the mats and off the mats means being strong throughout your entire body. Every time we move, we use strength, even walking requires strength, yoga requires strength. Strength is simply your ability to move and control your body effectively.
Strength through the spine, strength in the hip joint, the strength to activate the proper motor patterns to move fluidly, strength in the ligaments, joints and tendons, strength in your diaphragm for great breathing. Strength is much deeper than lifting weights.

Strength will improve performance, improve your health and protect you from injury. Strength will keep you on the mats longer.
